Prepare your Visit

The ICHS will start on Sunday 22 August. Herewith you'll find some practical information about the venue, how to get there and the equipment available.

Venue

The conference will take place in several buildings of the University of Amsterdam in the city centre. All in walking distance from each other. You will find a map of this area in your program book. The exact addresses of the different buildings are also in the program book. Students in red ICHS t-shirts will be there to help you find your way.

Important!: Your first stop should be the conference desk, where you can collect your conference bag, badge and other information. If you registered for the opening session you will receive a special badge that is also your entrance ticket for the Muziektheater, where the opening will take place. The Muziektheater is a 5-10 minutes walk from the Atrium and is also indicated on the map.

Participants from Affiliated Organisations only taking part in sessions elsewhere in Amsterdam (at the IISG, Aletta or Roeterseiland) also need to collect their conference materials at the conference desk in the Atrium.

The conference desk is in the Atrium of the University, Oudezijds Achterburgwal 237, Amsterdam.

How to get there

From Amsterdam Central Station you can take trams 4, 9, 16, 24 or 25 to (the) Spui. Cross the street and canal and go into Grimburgwal. At the end of this small street you will see a gate in the right corner. This is the entrance to the Atrium.

If you want to find out the route from your hotel to the venue, you can go to journeyplanner.9292.nl

In Amsterdam the public transport system use a ticket called the OV chipkaart. We advise you to buy a chipkaart in advance, because when you buy them with the tram or bus driver, they are much more expensive. You can buy such tickets at the GVB ticket and information shop opposite Amsterdam Central Station.

For information on tickets, where to buy them and prices, please go to www.gvb.nl

Equipment and such

All conference rooms are equipped with a computer and dataprojector (beamer). You only need to bring a USB-stick with your presentation. The computers use Windows. If you use Apple Mac please convert your presentation so it can be used under Windows. We would like to advise you to e-mail your presentation to your own web address as back-up.

In most UvA buildings there is Wifi. In the welcome letter, that you will receive with your conference materials at the conference desk, you will find your personal login and password to access the network. There is also a computer room in the Atrium, where you can work and access internet. The computerroom is opened during conference hours.

During the morning and afternoon breaks (10.15-10.30 and 15.15-15.30) coffee and tea will be served in all UvA buildings.
